How we verify

Urgent Care Atlas is compiled from public records, not from who paid to be listed.

Sources

• NPPES NPI Registry (CMS) — The federal registry of National Provider Identifiers, published monthly by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. We use the September 2026 bulk file.
• NUCC Health Care Provider Taxonomy — The code set that defines each registered specialty.

We load every active organization NPI in the monthly NPPES bulk file whose primary taxonomy is Urgent Care Clinic/Center (261QU0200X). Deactivated NPIs are excluded, and so are the few individuals who chose this facility taxonomy.

We skip centers whose NPI record has not been updated since before 2012. For walk-in care a closed location does real harm, and a record untouched for more than a decade is more likely to belong to a closed site. When one organization holds several NPIs at the same address, we list it once.

NPPES does not record hours, services, wait times or accepted insurance, and it does not verify the taxonomy a provider chooses. Hospital emergency departments and many hospital-run clinics register under other taxonomies, so they are not listed here.

“Pediatric urgent care” and “Occupational health” are simple matches on the registered name. They are convenience filters, not verifications.

Order within a city: records updated most recently first, then alphabetical. Featured listings appear in a separate, labelled box and never change that order.

What a badge means

Registry-checked: the center's National Provider Identifier (NPI) is active in the September 2026 NPPES file published by CMS, with Urgent Care Clinic/Center (261QU0200X) as its primary registered taxonomy. We only publish positive matches. A listing without a badge is not an accusation — most gaps are name variations between registries.

Freshness

Data was last refreshed on 2026-09-30. CMS publishes a new NPPES file every month; we re-load it monthly.
